Going on a vacation can be a crucial experience for unwinding, and giving yourself the chance to reset. When we work as hard as we do, and for so many hours a week, taking the time to relax and just have fun can be the key to finding success in the rest of your endeavors. But what if you can’t get away for a vacation right now? There are many reasons why a vacation may not be possible when you need it most. Instead of tossing out the whole idea, there are plenty of ways you can enjoy a staycation right at home. Here’s everything you need to know for unwinding without actually traveling.
Set aside time for a staycation just like you would a regular vacation
If you want to fully enjoy a staycation, make sure you block off time, just like you would for a regular vacation. A staycation is no fun if you need to be on call every few minutes, or if you’re fielding emails. These distractions will pull you away from your real task: unwinding, distraction free. So make sure you have some time set aside, where your work is on pause. It can be just for a day, or it can be much longer.
Unplug and disconnect
One of the best parts about going on vacations is disconnecting from both your work, and other things going on online as well. During your staycation, ditch the electronics, so you have the chance to properly disconnect and unplug. Worried about missing something important? You can leave your phones in another room, and put aside a short window of time to check in, instead of constantly having your devices at your disposal.
Enjoy the great outdoors
Depending on what you’re looking for in your staycation, getting outside may be a perfect activity. Of course, hitting the park or hiking trails can be very therapeutic, but you also don’t have to go very far, if you don’t want to, or you’re not able to. Spending time lounging in your backyard, or even sitting on your front steps will do, or going on a walk around the neighborhood. Nature is proven to make us happy and healthy, so getting fresh air in any form can be a key part of your staycation.
Set up a stay-at-home-spa
You don’t need to be at a luxurious resort to enjoy a first-class spa treatment. There are plenty of spa treatments you can do for yourself, right at home. You can even do treatments with some everyday items found in your fridge and pantry. Here are some ideas to get you started, so you can unwind and let some of that tension go.
Get creative with your activities
When you’re enjoying a staycation, you want to make sure you have some fun things lined up to do, especially if your staycation involves several family members. You can plan some creative activities, such as art projects, hands-on building projects, or creative writing time. You can also make some popcorn and snuggle up on the couch for a movie night, or read books together. There are plenty of fun activities you can do while on your staycation.
